New to saltwater/reef

I am new to saltwater tanks, have a 75gal fresh that is extremely well established. Decided to start a small reef tank.

Currently have about 6lbs of live rock up on a 10 gal for 1 month. This is my first saltwater tank ever. I want to turn this into something much larger one day.

Anyway, I have this green algae that looks like a fern growing on the glass. What is this, is it harmful?

Did you use tap water or did you use RO water when you started your tank?

Perfect thanks, looks like what I have is fairly standard although a nuisance. I did use tap water and realize this is not ideal.

I have had some trouble getting the nitrates down, any advice? I've been doing a water change every week.

To get your nitrates down do a greater water change or several smaller ones

I do several smaller water changes until my nitrates go down. Sometimes it is the food that makes it jump up so when I feed my anemone and ducans I will change a small amount of water the following day and then again later on do a regular pwc.
