So if my tank was 50 gallons i should have 25 crabs and 25 snails or is it 50 crabs and 50 snails?

The guideline would be 50 of each. I would go with about 25 of each.

I agree with this. You could even go a little higher with the snails. Mix up the species a bit though, some clean the sand and some will clean the rock and the glass.

I've heard of many getting rid of the damsels so as not to worry about as many potential agression issues down the road. I'd suggest trading them in for 3 blue/green chromis. Maybe my profile can give you some ideas on 75g inhabitants. Don't pay attention to the purple tang I have in it - as my new friend owns a SW shop. I can trade'm in if he gets too big.

Blue/green chromis are great, I have 5 in my 75g. They school great and they do not bother anything and nothing bothers them.
