Noobest Question Ever

Since I'm having so many problems with my tank, I might as well ask this question.

What essential pieces of equipment should I have for a 65 US gallon tank that's going to be a reef tank once the problems are gone?

Currently, I've 2x Tetra EX120 cannister filters, a protein skimmer from the US coming in the mail (I'm currently in Beijing working, the two domestic ones I tried are completely and utterly @$&^!*$@%), Aqua Vision 2x power compact lights/2 blue fluorescent bulbs.

I'm giving thoughts to picking up an UV sterilizer.

Some recommendations please.
