Ok to Change Filter Sponge?

Hi Everyone,

Is it ok to change the mechanical filter sponge on a Hagen Aquaclear 20? I don't want to kill any beneficial bacteria. Biomax won't be touched.

Also, is it ok to change the carbon?

Its been running for 2.5 months now.

I don't run a sponge in my aquaclear, and not carbon either. Actually I only run GFO in there. If I had a reactor I wouldn't even have a filter...

The carbon does not stay useful for that long. IMO you don't even need to worry about carbon at this point.

It's ok lol... Granulated ferrite oxide. It lowers phosphates.
