Hey all, I haven't had a problem in a while with my tank. I went away for a week and I left my protein skimmer off. When I came back, the sand was brown probably from fish waste. It is still a nasty brown. I have a DSB, remora aqua-c skimmer, and hardly enough LR (about 30 lbs). I also use spring water for water changes which I know fuels algaes. I plan on getting a RO/DI filter. I was wondering if more LR would help with this, maybe break it down more. I am also going to clean my skimmers pump. Any suggestions on how to fight this?
10 months old
3 green chromis
2 false clowns
yellow stripe clingfish
fridmani, orchid dottyback
1 cleaner shrimp
P.S. I was thinking of throwing my emperor 400 on there too, until I get all my LR.

what about nassaria snails whould they help since it sounds like you have DSB or using siphon just about dsb without disturbing.

Until you get a RO/DI find a machine that sells RO water for like 25cents/gal and do a good 10-20% water change to export some of the excess nutrients.
