Besides the basic reasons for a water change (amonia, nitirte, nitrate, etc...) what other reasons are there for doing regular water changes if those levels stay in check. More specifically, what minerals get depleted that only adding new water can cure and do some of these minerals get filtered out of the RO process requiring a supplement.:eating:
 
PWC`s do several things but the two main things are that 1) They dilute excessive nutrients in your tank. These excessive nutrients will fuel nuisance algeas and hurt inverts and corals. Phosphates that come from the feedings and nitrates that come from the end of the cycle must be removed for your tank to have success. 2) They replenish trace elements that are used up during fish and coral processes. There are over 89 different salts in marine salt mixes. All these are important to the different processes that go on in your tank. And BTW the only things that your RO/DI takes out of your water dont belong in there anyway.
