i need to replace two 55 watt actinic bulbs in a new light fixture.the lfs doesnt have 55watt but they told me i could use the 65 watt.can i use them or should i order the 55's?
You can use them but they will perform at the same level as the 55's. You might try ebay, that is where I got my replacements. About 15-20 for each bulb + shipping is typical to see. Watch for deals though. I purchased 2 for 15.99 +6 shipping. So you can get deals!!!
If your ballast will do the 65W then go for it. The bulbs are very simular in overall size. Some dual 55W hoods might use a single 110W ballst and in that case you wouldnt really get the benifits from the slightly higher output bulbs.
