ph corrected itself

For anyone who is cycling their tank, I was wondering why my ph dropped from 8 to 7.7 in mid cycle with no livestock. I used good salt and RO water to set it up with. About one week after cycling it automatically returned to 8, without doing anything.

The die off was a tremendous load on the ph, the rotting material caused the ph to drop. When the bacteria had colonized and dealt with the ammonia and nitrites the tank reached a better balance. You should check the alk, cycling can be a strain on the chemical balance of a tank, this is one of the reasons it is recommended to do a water change after the cycle has completed.

I will do. Amazingly, the alkalinity and calcium are okay. Calcium at 400, alkalinity at 10 dKH. Nitrates are high at 10.
