Preparing Equipment for Saltwater Use

Is there a particular way to prepare things like the water storage containers?

I ordered four 5G jugs specifically for saltwater, but they absolutely REEK of plastic.

Will this make a difference to the saltwater?
Should I rinse them with something?

Leave the caps off and let them sit outside for a while. The smell should go away.

I have a mix of many different saltwater fish amongst my tanks, but I love my Tangs most of all.
