Pumice Base Rock?

Has anyone used pumice for base rock? Read something online thats going on in Fiji. Hanging pumice from wires til it becomes live and selling to aquarist.
 
I don't see why not, keep in mind, some pumice stones float.

Hmmmm, I doubt it would leach any heavy metals into the tank, but then that might depend on where it comes from.
Reaching waaaaaay back to to my geology in college, pumice is not really classified as a true rock. It comes from the "foam" of an active volcano. Really the only issue could be if it contains silicates or not. Silicates can cause diatom blooms, but they burn themselves out.
I'd be interested in what others have to say.
One thing, you probably pay less for shipping, based on they are very light! LOL!
