Question QT Tank

I have a 10 gallon that I have on standby for QT. It has a sponge filter. Can I put the sponge in the sump to form the bacteria(just in case) or does it need to be in the tank? I am setting up a new tank but not for a couple of weeks. I just want to have it ready just in case.

IMO In the sump will work just fine.
Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.
