Hello so a week ago I set up my quarantine tank and I placed some live rock in it bought from my Lfs to cycle it. However through the past week all of my waste levels remain at 0. I expected to see ammonia rising but test every second day I haven't had any change! How long does it take to start the cycle normally? Is it possible the live rock was already cured?

What is the ammonia source?

Your lights are off, right?

Yea lights are off all the time. And I thought the live rock will produce and ammonia source?

You need to add an actual ammonia source. The live rock and live sand and stuff helps with the cycle process but it doesn't start it.

You can use ammonia and dose it up to 4ppm or you can get a cocktail shrimp and put it in some pantyhose and leave it in there, or you can buy bottled cycle starters.

I think the most common, trusted and most effective method is the shrimp.

Good luck.
