Question about chaeto macro algae vs brown algea

So I've read that when you set up a refugium with chaeto it will compete with other algea in your aquarium? My question is will this competition cause a algea bloom? I put chaeto in my sump with a light and noticed a brown algea bloom on my sand bed. But I symotanusly put a media reactor in using chemi pure and also added a uv sterilizer in. My parameters are better than they have ever been. But I'm thinking that the the cause of the low nitrates and ammonia is more due to the algea bloom.
