Hey everyone,

I am having a bout of reef paranoia and wanted some input. About how often should I turn my water volume through my sump/fuge combo an hour? The sump is where my phosban and skimmer are located. As far as the main tank, there is about 200lbs of live rock up there and im using a single tunze @ 1800g/hr and a mag 9.5 @ about 8 ft./head so I figure im knocking around all 145 gallons about 15 - 20 times an hour above the sump, however I think im only passing the volume *through* the sump about 7 times an hour. Time to bump the mag 9 to an 18?

That sounds like more than enough turnover. 10x is the usual amount of total circulation.

I guess I have always assumed that the 10 X guideline was applied to flow through the display only. I figured my sump flow to be around 6.5 - 7X an hour and that just seemed low end to me. Thanks Kat, appreciate the input.
