Razor Caulerpa

Attached is a pic of my Razor or Sawtooth Caulerpa which I added to 55SW the other day.

The tips went white for an hour or so then green again, and lo and behold, the ever-present film on top of my water was GONE.

I had been skimming normally and stuff prior to this but the film was always sorta there. Now it is is gone and has not come back.

Being that this tank is fairly new (3 mos old) I spose the Caulerpa absorbed some nitrates and whatever was causing the film... that is why the tips went white for a bit?

Any thoughts? Everyone seems to like the Caulerpa inluding the crabs and snails which climb through it and pick tiny bits of hair algae off of it.

A link that I found:

I have always had great experiences with the caulpra. I had a lot in my tank now but my tang liked it a littel to much!! ( no more caulerpa!!) After that i did notice that my tank was a little more dirty, and my crabs, shrimp, and hermits had to find other food. I enjoyed the caulerpa and thought it added a little more character to the tank!

Ah, that is cool!!

I bought this humongous pile of it for ten bucks from nice LFS gal... I thought that was a pretty good deal.

I'm gonna see how it grows out...

Thanks for the good info. hehe I will remember that if I get a tang
