Recycling salt

Just an idea going to see what ppl thought about it but instead of always buying salt couldn't you just recycle it. Like when you do a water change syphin in into a bucket then let all the trash settle to the bottom then syphin the water from on top to another bucket since that water would be clean. Then let the water evaporate so all you have left would be salt. Sound good? Would that salt be contaminated with nitrates or anything or would it be safe to use?

All of those questions don't even need answered. It would take so long to see results you would need a swimming pool outside or a porch filled with trash cans. Waste of time IMO.

You would have NaCl and not much more. That wouldn't be a replacement for what salt mix contains... especially if you've got coral. I guess it would be do-able if you dosed everything else manuallly, but IMO, you'd end up spending more in the long run.

So the salt has some minerals that coral and stuff needs?

yeah the salt has essencial trace elements that the system needs, plus when detritus breaks down it disolves so what you end up with is a disolved organic that will never end up goign a way and when evaporated will just sit in your "salt"

Interesting. Well thanks for the tips. Sounded like a good idea. Does calcium come like in the water when you do water changes? Like enough to just keep some soft coral and hermit crabs and snails alive? Does soft coral even need calcium.
