Does anyone know what type of algae this is, possible causes, and how to get rid of it. Its on my powerhead, protein skimmer, and my substrate. I have 6 mexican turbo snails and they will not touch the stuff. Like the title says it red and has a slimey feel to it. thanx in advance.

It certainly looks like cynobacteria...caused by excess nutrients in the water. Just do a simple search for cyno and you will come up with loads of solutions...good luck.

What are you feeding your fish? How often? How old are the bulbs on your tank? What kind of lighting is it? Most of the time cyano comes from an excess of nutrients in the system.
