Refugium for a 54 gallon corner bow

My 54 gallon corner bow tank has a sump that is getting old and basically falling apart. My aquatic guy has talked me into changing it into a refugium (I'd also like opinions on this, if possible). I am talking to a acrylic guy who can make it for me. I am trying to maximize the amount of space since I was told the bigger the better. My acrylic guy suggested he could make me one in the shape of a triangle to use as much space as possible. Would this work? Has anyone heard of someone using a triangle sump/refugium? If you think it's possible any ideas on how to set it up? Sorry to be so needy lol but I have to act fast.

I `ve heard of others using rubber maid tubs. If it holds water you should be good to go.
