Can anyone tell me any more about refugiums (refugia?)

Are they mainly to increase total water volume, or have they any other benefits?

Thanks

Glenn

I use mine for added water volume and nutrient exportation. They are great for keeping macro algea.

the line between refugium and sump is beginning to blur a bit, a lot are combos. I use mine to hide all the extra equipment like skimmers and reactors.
