Hello,

I recently installed my sump about 2-3 days ago. The guy at my LFS told me that I should leave my old canister filter in my tank for about 2 weeks so that my sump will obtain a biological filter. Do I have to leave my old canister filter in there for that long or is it okay to take it out and throw it in my closet now?

2 weeks is probably about right. In addition there's nothing wrong with leaving it on there full time. Just remove the sponges. You get extra flow, some place to run carbon, purigen, GFO or whatever else you many want to run media-wise. It's not an all or nothing prop.

That sounds good then. The reason I wanted it out is because I hate how it looks in the tank and I hate cleaning it. If fit in my sump i guess i could put it in there?
