Question return pump gph

How do I calculate the gph my return pump needs to be? I am going to be using an overflow box to connect the sump.

It needs to be higher than the GPH that the overflow box is rated at. It should be on the box or you'll have to google it.

It's not the other way around, overflow higher gph than return pump?

No, if the return pump is dialed back by a gate valve that you plumb after the pump. This way you can match the GPH perfectly. The overflow having higher GPH will lead to the water level in the tank dropping below the overflow and lead to siphon loss. This will lead to your return pump emptying the third section of your sump into the display tank and overflowing the system.
