I believe that is diatom algae on your sand. What kind of CUC do you currently have?

Is your tank new? It usually appears in new tanks. I believe you currently have coral so leaving the lights off is not an option. If it is diatom, your CUC should eat it and it'll go away by itself in no time. It doesn't stay like other types of algae.

Again, I am assuming this is diatom, a more knowledgeable member should have an input first before assuming I'm correct.

It's easier to help you if you answer questions... without knowing what you have it's hard to know what you need. The way you would get rid of it is more CUC (Clean Up Crew) There are a few things you could get... one of the best is the nassarius snails as they turn up the to layer of sand, but hermits and maybe a couple other types of snails as well... Diversity is key, if you have all one type of CUC then the algae they don't eat will flourish and your CUC could starve with a buffet that others would love. But if you have diversity then they can all eat and there will be more of a balance.
