River sand

hi

i was wondering if you can use river sand in a marine aquarium. i found a product here in japan that is made by the famous aquariast, Takashi Amano and its called bright sand. it says it has no additives and the grains have no effect on water condtions.

Yes, but just like regular silica sand it would have no buffering capacity for the water (aragonite sand dissolves and buffers marine PH, etc.). I would imagine, that being made for aquaria specifically, it would naturally carry a premium price. If you really like it, go for it...it will likely not have a detrimental effect.
