I am all set to purchase 40lb of Gulf and Key rock from liverocks but I want to run my set up and equipment by the forum. I am new an any advice is greatly appreciated. I have had the water, salt and temp going since 6-18-05.

I have a 70 gallon (hexagon) with 40lb livesand and 10lb of dead rock
temp is 79 and salt is 1.022

My equipment that I have is:
2 powerheads Maxi jet 400 and 600
Sandfilter - Lifegard fluidized bed filter
Heater Via Auqa glassheater 200 w
Air pump - Tetratec Deepwater
pump - Fluval (msf) 304
Protein Skimmer Spears 1/2" (won't need till later?)
Light - 2 ultraviolet resources Intl LRJ - Actinic White CEt343 17
and a 1 coralife Actinic Blue 7100 k (FR15 T8 360 BP AF833)

I want to keep coral and fish - Will these keep everything alive?
coral will come later, I will start with fish (slowly). Thank you in advance!

Should I run the Fluval pump when I put the 40lb of liverock in?

1. You will want more LR, at LEAST 1#/gal.
2. You will probably need more flow than a 400 and 600. I run 2 1200 in my 75.
3. No experience with the Sandfilter.
4. Two heaters are better than 1. A backup is great.
5. You shouldn't need the air pump with enough surface agitation and it irritates coral.
6. I don't use a canister, and have no experince with them.
7. Never heard of the skimmer.
8. Never heard of the light, what kind of light and what wattage?
9. The sand bed will be pretty thin with only 40#.
