Now that I moved my fish to a QT is there any reason to keep the salinity of my main tank at a safe level while it is cycling? I don't have access to premix so I make my own using Instant Ocean... I am going to keep doing water changes til the ammonia levels drop but I was wondering if I should bother adding salt to the water sine there won't be fish in it for a while. Can I keep the tank with mainly fresh and add the salt when levels are almost to normal? That way the salt can aerate while the last of the levels drop.

Not unless you want to keep FW fish when it's cycled
