Sand

I'm fixing to start my 10g saltwater tank I was wondering what type of sand I should get! I have heard "live" sand in a bag is dead! So should I buy just regular sand and add a shrimp to start the cycling process? We're is the best place to get fairly cheap sand for a 10g?

I agree that live sand is no longer live sand. I would just get regular dry sand and put all in the tank to cycle. That`s Rock, sand and water along with an ammonia source. We do have a good article about cycling a SW tank ion our SW articles section. Good Luck.
