I'm shooting to get a 3" sand bed in the 55 gallon tank I've purchased.

I have enough aragonite to get a 2" bed currently. If I throw an inch of already live sand from an existing tank will that be overkill?

Do I need to mix the aragonite and live sand together?

Thanks!

Any amount of already live sand will help seed the tank. If you have an inch worth that's relatively clean, then you can use it. Or, you can get more new sand and use less of the live stuff. Either way will work.

No need to mix it.

Do I need to mix it up? Or can I just layer the aragonite sand down first and put an inch or two of live sand on top of it?
