Skimmer noise

I just installed my first protein skimmer after years without one. The lfs sold me a BakPak by CPR, which came with the MaxiJet 1200 powerhead. Setup was a snap, but the noise seems really excessive and loud! I'm not sure if it's the powerhead so much as it is the water/bubbles in the skimmer unit (I have the venturi open almost all the way to maximize the bubbles, and if the air venturi is closed the noise is reduced to nothing but cuts off the bubbles). I'm not expecting silence, but it is producing enough noise to disturb me.
Is this normal for a skimmer to be this loud? Are there any quieter skimmers I could perhaps purchase? If so, anyone want to buy a BakPak?

If the noise is coming from the air line... buy a long tube.. it will lower the pitch significantly where you can't hear it.

most skimmers quiet down a lot after a couple weeks.

I switched out the maxijet for a Rio 600 power head and that reduced my noise considerably. With the maxijet I only had the venturi open when I wasn't home since the noise was excessive.
