is it possible to have so much LR in a tank, that there isnt enough food to go around?

What do you mean by "food"? I assume that you mean ammonia and nitrites.

I have just over 100lbs of lr in my 46gal tank and haven't experienced a problem. Bacteria will increase or decrease depending on the bio load.

Regular PWCs will replenish depleted resources in the water. I agree with Charlie. How much LR do you have?
