Sump refugium build

I am building a 30 gallon sump for reef tank and looking for thoughts/ideas on set-up.
Should I put the skimmer in the inlet or return pump section?

What substrate in refug? Mud or sand?

Any good plans or drawings online?

I always get great ideas from experienced people on here )

skimmer in inlet section so you dont skim any pods and also the return section water level will drop due to evaporation (skimmers dont like that),sand or mud is personal choice and depends on flow through the fuge,slow for mud faster for sand,if your just adding macro algae then use sand so you can keep high flow,there's a few pictures in my profile which may help you.
