This is my sump refugium. I have no clue what im doing, so I will describe what I did and hope that someone can tell me good or bad.

On the left is the inlet compartment, with pump, skimmer, and main tank inlet, as well as a bunch of live rock rubble.

In the middle is a deep sand bed. Nothing else yet.

On the right is the outlet compartment, with pump, bioballs, and an internal filter.

The inlet wall is 1.5" higher than the outlet wall.

Am I doing this right?!

I would get rid of the bio balls and put live rock rubble in instead, why have you a pump in the inlet section? is it for the skimmer, otherwise yes it looks ok.

The pump is under the lr rubble, to pull the water down through it and push it back up as well. No stagnant areas.

the only problem with that is you'll have to keep removing it to maintain it,just make the inlet pipe longer so it goes under the rock.
