Yea for a mantis shrimp I wouldn't recommend anything less than extra thick acrylic just to be on the safe side. Here's a pic of when I first had my baby mantis!

There's a 2.5" one in my 40gal's sump and I get scared to reach into it anymore for maintenance lol.
