I was thinking it might be best when I get my tank setup to cycle it with nothing in it, just throw some shrimp, then when the cycle is complete, put in the sand and liverock, are there any problems with doing this, or should I might as well just have the sand and liverock in from the start?

Yes. start with LR and LS. the idea behind cycling is to build up your bennificial bacteria in the sandbed and rock. you may use a raw shrimp to do this. If you use fully cured rock (rock thats been established already) you will get some die of with that aswell, providing you with even more amonia to cycle with.

its does not take much to start the cycle either. If your using a tank smaler than 40gal then just use 1 large raw shrimp. If your doing a 55 then use two large shrimp.

as tim suggested its good to have the sand and rock in there before adding the shrimp.
