ok i have saved some money and its time to start my reef lighting "i only have flourescent right now" one blue one 10 k. Im going with a combo of metal halide and probably power compact, my queston is what is consider high lighting as far as watts per gallon go?

In a 40G you could probably same some money and go with T5 VHOs.
What are you looking to keep, coral wise?

It`s hard to go with the WPG rule anymore. Intensity is more important. The same WPG of a PC system is not the same as a similar T5 system. T5`s and MH`s have much more intensity.

well there is alot of coral to choose from and to start off with im going to get some easy stuff the go to the harder corals but at the same time i want my rock algae and fish to look like they do at the store

also is there a good dictionary of corals like a book i can buy or a website i can go to i need to do lots of research befor i get to that stage
