See and that's what I was thinking... so when I read that I looked in my refugium and there IS a very few VERY smell snails!! They are really really small snails they HAVE to be getting in through the overflow?
 
Ive had snails make their way all the way down into my sump through the return plumbing.. The PVC snail guards really help with turbulence issues.
 
when you see big snails in the sump, just grab them and toss them back in the DT.
i think you mean drain plumbing, not return plumbing. how could they get through the return pump impeller?

You are correct. Return to the sump. Not return to the display.
