I just recently setup a 29G saltwater tank (December 27th exactly) and I was wondering if I could transfer a carbon filter cartridge from my already established 15G that has been setup for a year now to maybe help with my cycle for the 29.

The 29G has aragonite sand for the substrate that was seeded by a cup from the 15G and has 32lbs. of cured live rock that was placed in it the 27th.

The cartridge would be transferred from a Penguin 200 to an Emperor 400. Not a perfect fit but the emperor comes with plastic casings that allow you to put any kind of media in them.

The cartridge I would transfer is a little over a week old now.

I doubt it would speed things up - it all depends on how much bacteria had colonized that filter cartridge. I can't imagine a week old filter would have much of anything built up on it. Wouldn't hurt though...
