I think 50 lbs of rock dead or live will be PLENTY to work with.

Awsome! What brand did you go with? Once you start using a brand you can't switch btw.

Any facts backing up the salt switch? I've heard of several people switching salts with no special requirements or issues...

If I am incorrect, why?

That's just what I've been told by people. I heard switching brands can mess with ph and stuff. Am I wrong? Lol I have no idea this is just what I've heard.

I think that if you're around long enough, you will probably hear everything!

Well, I'm not sure either - I was wanting to switch from IO to Reef Crystals - as I went to a reef tank- and all of my research pointed to having no issues. Some people had certain preferences, and some stated that the parameters on Ca, Alk, and Mg were all a bit different, but as long as you changed it out through normal weekly pwc's, there would be no I'll effects.

Back to the research phase!

You would lose bacteria and the tank would go through a mini cycle and possibly kill fish and corals... Big no no.
