I need help finding a storage tank to mix my saltwater. Currently using a Rubbermaid 42gal trash can. It has some buildup of crud from using Reef Crystals. Some Is coming off with scraping, but proving to be too difficult. Interestingly, the water in the mixing tank tested at 2.5 for Nitrates so something is going on in the trash can.

Is there a better alternative to the Rubbermaid? It is easy to reach in and clean. And I was able to install a nice spigot near the bottom.

What about the crud dissipating from the Instant Ocean reef crystals. Red Sea reef salt better?

You're going to get crud like this no matter the salt you use. This is leftover gunk from the salt being processed. Most companies say that it is clay and won't have any negative effects on your tank.
