What about the SW Quarantine Tank????

I'm setting up my first SW tank and I need to know what I absolutely need for a Quarantine tank. Do I really need a Skimmer? Do I need fancy lighting or will flourescent work? Can I keep live rock in there without all the excess contraptions? Any advice is appreciated..Thanx

Hi STARFYRE, welcome to AA.

Here is an article on SW Quarantine that may help you.

About the skimmer and fancy lighting, do you want a Reef tank (with corals, etc.) or just a FOWLR tank (no corals, just fish)? If you want a reef tank, I'd go with the skimmer and you will need stronger lighting. Skimmers are another thing that I think is neccesary on a reef tank. You'll see once you fire it up and realize how much gunk it pulls out. There are others who think you don't need one either.

I don't really understand this question. Could you explain?

Simple QT tank consists of: 20g, sponge filter...you're done lol. You really do not want anything in the tank that will dilute medications or even pull them away from your livestock being treated. Here's a wonderful article: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...ture/index.php
