What about the SW Quarantine Tank????

I'm setting up my first SW tank and I need to know what I absolutely need for a Quarantine tank. Do I really need a Skimmer? Do I need fancy lighting or will flourescent work? Can I keep live rock in there without all the excess contraptions? Any advice is appreciated..Thanx

About the skimmer and fancy lighting, do you want a Reef tank (with corals, etc.) or just a FOWLR tank (no corals, just fish)? If you want a reef tank, I'd go with the skimmer and you will need stronger lighting. Skimmers are another thing that I think is neccesary on a reef tank. You'll see once you fire it up and realize how much gunk it pulls out. There are others who think you don't need one either.

Can I keep live rock in there without all the excess contraptions?

I don't really understand this question. Could you explain?
