what do I need?

I have an empty ten gallon tank and I am thinking about starting that up as a salt water tank. I was hoping some one could tell me exactly what I need to get started. I am totally clueless when it comes to sw.

A 10g tank is going to give you absolutely no margin for error and will wind up costing you more in long run. I would recommend no less than a 30 gallon long for a beginner SW setup. Hopefully you will go for it, its really not as hard as some people think, especially if you have had success with FW.

I would totally go for it but my husband JUST got me my 55gal freshwater. I was hoping to use the existing tank. I dont want anything grand, maybe just one fish or two. but if its really a bad idea to start with the ten gallon, I guess I will just wait to get a larger tank. Thanx!!

I would tend to agree with phases99.

However, 20 gal tanks are very cheap and would be fine for a pair of clownfish. Perhaps the LFS would give you some credit if you trade in the 10 gal ?

yeah, 10gallon is 'nano-style', and something the SW experts try when they want a new challenge.
