is carbon for and where do u put it????

and i was just wondering how much sand i need for a 55gal to make a DSB????TIA

Activated carbon is used in aquariums to help filter water. The carbon would be placed in a location of high localized flow. Most often this is just before the water returns to the main tank either by putting it in a skimmer output or having it in your sump just before the pump that returns water to the main tank.

I would like to add carbon is not needed and many of us here dont use carbon or if we do its only used perodicly.

Use the sand calculator above in our calculators section to get an estimate on how much sand might be needed for a given depth. Use the calculator only as an estimate.
