Do you have a air stone
bubbler strip? It goes in between 2 hose filters for your air stone bubbler ...I forget what it's called. ill go look

It really doesnt do much other than what was mentioned...like if power goes out one day the valve will stop it from leaking all over your floor. its worth using since you have it, but not a necessity IMO

worth noting is that it's made to flow in one direction only, so using your pic as reference the end at the top of the pic would be the inlet and the bottom end the outlet
