Would this light work for soft corals on a FOWLR tank

For fish only any light you pick will be good. That light will actually allow you to keep some corals in the future if thats what you wanna do.
 
how many would I need and how do you mount them ?
I'd say just one strong one unless you're going to do sps corals. I'm not too keen on smaller tank requirements. They sell them as a kit for $60ish with a flexible gooseneck mounting system. Check on amazon and ebay
 
I was just looking at them. I see they come in different watt sizes. what would you recommend....how about t-5 lights for this size tank

T-5s don't have the quality of light as far as aesthetics IMO and you have to replace the bulbs every 6-9 months. I'd go with a par38 in the 50ish watt range.
