I've been cycling my 60g cube for exactly 3 weeks. I've been dosing ammonia to 4ppm almost daily, as it is usually back to zero in less than 12 hours. My nitrites are approx 5ppm and haven't been dropping. I am now seeing a diatom bloom that has spreading fast.

Is this normal?

Is it a sign I'm almost done?

Should I continue dosing ammonia?

Will a CUC get rid of the diatoms after I'm done with the cycle?

It is (will be) a reef tank. More specifically, it's a 60 gallon cube with Integrated filter, skimmer, etc in an enclosed area on the back. (similar to a biocube or uniquarium).

I have 2" of live sand and approx 65 lbs of live rock.

Can anyone help me with this? I'd greatly appreciate it. :)

this is normal. the longest part of cycling a tank is the nitrite spike. it took 2-3 weeks for my nitrites to get back to 0.
