This mornings test results and some pics of the new backgrounds I added to both tanks.

Tank #1

Temp 75
PH 7.6
High PH 7.8
Ammo 0-0.25ppm
No2 5.0ppm
No3 5.0ppm

Tank #2

Temp 75
PH 7.6
High PH 7.8
Ammo 0-0.25ppm
No2 5.0ppm
No3 10.0ppm

Both tanks seem to be at the same place now the No3 is a little lower on tank#1 because it has live plants in it. I am really starting to dread testing for the first little bit I kinda looked forward to it now I just want it to be over. I have great sympathy for Librarygirl after reading about what happened during her fishless cycle I probably would have give up. I added black backgrounds to both tanks tank#1 it is kinda hard to tell because the wall behind it dark. But tank #2 looks a whole lot better will look real good with fish in both of them.

I just read back through my post and noticed that my No3 has been dropping in tank 2. Is this common it has no live plants in it and I have not done any pwc's to it? I thought the only way to get rid off No3 was with plants and pwc's.

Today's test results did not test yesterday
Should I be concerned about the drop in the PH of tank #1? Is this the no2 spike?

Tank #1
temp 75
PH 7.2
High PH 7.4
Ammo 0.25ppm
No2 5.0ppm+
No3 160ppm+

Tank #2

Temp 75
PH 7.6
High PH 7.8
Ammo 0.25ppm
No2 5.0ppm
No3 5.0ppm

The pH is definitely worth keeping an eye on. Once it drops...it tends to keep dropping. If it goes down much more I'd knock out a pwc to restore some alkalinity. And yep, this looks like the nitrIte spike :)

Tested this morning test results look real good. Might be cycled???

Tank 1
Temp 75
PH 7.6
High PH 7.8
Ammo 0
No2 0.0
No3 80ppm

Tank 2

Temp 75
PH 7.6+
High PH 7.4
Ammo 0.25
No2 5.0+
No3 20

Tank #1 seems to be cycled will dose ammo up and check tomorrow. Tank #2 seems like it might be in the No2 spike. PH has dropped in tank #2 same thing tank #1 did yesterday. Should I dose back up to 4.0 ammo or half? When can I move the extra filter inserts over to tank2 to finish it?

Yep, it looks like tank #1 might be cycled :). I'd just keep things at 4ppm.

You can donate filter media whenever you want. Just remember it'll basically un-cycle the tank you're removing it from. It shouldn't take too long to bounce back though.

No3 didn't test

Took the 2 extra inserts out of tank 1 and put them in tank so that hopefully it will cycle before this weekend so I can get fish for both at the same time. Will do a pwc on tank 1 tomorrow to try and get the PH up some.

After moving the extra filter inserts to tank 2 it seems to have set tank 1 back a couple days

Sounds good. I'd definitely wait on Tank 2 even if nitrite shows 0 today, I'd keep testing it for a few days to make sure it stays at 0.

For Tank 1, do a 100% water change to get those nitrates down. Let it circulate for 30 minutes and test again. Do another water change if needed; with nitrate that high sometimes it takes more than 1 to get them down. You want it as low as you can (under 10 ideally, under 5 is best). Don't forget to turn your heater down too. Pics of fish when you get them. :)

Fish added to tank 1. Four gourami's 2 blue gouramis and 2 lavender gouramis ( I think they are snakeskins not lavenders)

Tested tank#2

Temp 75
PH 7.6
Ammo 0
No2 0
No3 160ppm

Will do big pwc in the morning to get No3 down. Update on tank 1 some how one of the blue gouramis jumped out of the back of the tank. I cut some plexiglas and covered the space around the filter so this won't happen again.
