20 gallon long stocking ideas?

I am currently fishless cycling a 20g long tank. I would like to have a male and female guppy and some neon tetras. I assume these are compatible. Any other suggestions? I would like a betta as well but i think I saw something about guppies giving the betta a hard time.

I still have a while to wait for the cycle but I am starting to thinking about stock.

Thanks for the suggestions.

You are right. Betta and guppies don't mix. The Betta will be threatened by the guppy's tails and attack. Guppies and neons work fine together. I'd suggest getting 2-3 females per male guppy so spread his attention around. Male guppies are very persistent.
What about some kuhli loaches, cories or a bristlenose pleco for the bottom of the tank?

Love the idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I was under the impression that most plecos and loaches got huge. After googling these, it looks like they stay small. Are they ok with black diamond blasting sand?

Good choice. I love bn plecos. IMO you'd still have room for a centre piece fish like a Molly, pair or trio of platys or a small kind of gourami of you want.

Wow I though I would be overstocked. I have a aquaclear 50 running on the tank.

So now I'm thinking:

1 Dwarf gourami
1 male guppy
2 female guppies
6 neon tetras
2-3 Bristlenose pelco

Looks good except the bn plecos. IMO only one, two at the most. They are poop machines so they add quite a bit to the bioload.

The tank cycled three days ago. I did a couple of 24 hour tests. All good. I got the dwarf gourami and two guppies today. I will pick some of the others this weekend. Fishless cycling rocks.
