It is physically possible, but I wouldn't do it. Sponge filters are great for smaller tanks or quarantine setups. Not huge tanks.

I'm no expert on filtration (especially on that size tank) but I would buy a few canister filters for a huge tank. Or a few aquaclear HOBs

I know canister filters are about $120+ each. Aquaclears I'm not sure of, maybe $70-$80 for the biggest one(you'd need multiple)
Canister filters are a lot better on larger tanks than hob filters

But don't do anything until you get a second opinion! Lol

How would that work? Put one on each end? Sorry if I sound stupid but I have never had a tanl this size before.

Yes, pretty much. I'd get maybe two fluval 406's and put one on each end.

Or you could pick a different brand of filter

EDIT: you will need more than one fluval. Probably two

Two 406s or 1 fx5

Yeah I know. With any luck I will be able to get a whole setup for cheap off of craigslist.

I've got a 150 gal and one FX5. I believe these are rated up to 400 gals. I've got plenty of flow.
