Yes. Heaters are definately cheaper than the lfs. Ours are somewhere around $30 for a 50 Watt heater.

Depending on what African cichlids you have you are likely fully stocked. 2 Africans in a 20 gal is likely to be trouble, just the two of them, lol!

It depends greatly on what fish you have, so can you ID them?

1 a red zebra the other is a rubin red albino

You have a mbuna and an Aulonocara sp. (peacock) and this combo sometimes works and sometimes does not, even in much bigger tanks. They will definitely fight in a 20, so keep an eye on them. I am assuming they are juveniles?

the female chases the red zebra and the zebra hides in the plants but otherwise they just chase

if you have nitrites it may be throwing off the pH ... i find the pH will stabelize once your cycle is completely finished. Once those nitrites hit zero.. be sure to only add one or two fish per week!
