Question aquarium substrate

i was wondering what is some cheap sand or small gravel i can get to put in my tank?

pool filter sand is about as cheap as you can get and lots of people on here use it.

Yeah either pool filter sand or play sand. I used Quikrete Premium Play sand, it was about $4 for a 50lb bag. I used about an eighth of what was in the bag for my 10 gallon. Pool filter sand is a little larger in size and will help prevent compacting to a certain extent. Just remember, if you got with sand, you will have to stir the sand every week or so that pockets of poisonous gas do not form under the sand.

I've used both play sand and pool filter sand. They are very similar, but I found the PFS ALOT easier to rinse and less dusty overall.

i have used pea gravel from lowes. $2.50 for 50 pounds.
