Betta Tank Build

Ok, so i havent seen how a betta tank was run since i was 6 years old. Betta keeping has changed alot since then. I pulled out some of my spare cash and bought a secondhand betta tank. It holds about 1 gallon. I'd like some advice on how to set it up. There's not much aquascaping promise for a tank this small, but ill see what i can do. Is this big enough for a betta? What's better, male or female? Can i keep them together? What other equipment should i have besides a tank? How often should i change the water?

a 5 gallon is best. males are prettier. males and females generally can not be kept together. you need a heater and a filter.
